This post is mainly photos from a trip to Alaska I took earlier this summer. I helped at a mission base in Healy for two weeks, in the interior of Alaska. Apparently Alaska is large enough to have an “interior” like the continents of Africa and Australia.
These photos were taken during our time off. (My job was primarily cooking, which looks the same in Alaska as it does in Pennsylvania. The most exotic thing we cooked was ground moose, which looks and tastes just like ground beef).
What surprised me the most about Alaska was how underpopulated it was. Yes, I knew Alaska is mostly wilderness, but knowing that in your head and actually experiencing it is different. For example, whenever else I’ve flown in an airport, say, Portland or Dublin, you see the city spread out as you approach the airport. In Fairbanks, I saw trees.
Most of the pictures in this blog post were taken in Denali National Park, which is very close to Healy.

These are great pictures! I’m going to see if I can find fireweed seeds to plant .
Thanks! Yes, fireweed is beautiful! Wonder if it would grow in Pennsylvania.
